A mix of returning players and newcomers turned out to put their talents on display for the ACADEMY coaching staff at try-outs on July 31-August 1 and the result was the formation of eight teams for ACADEMY for the 2011 club season.
"I thought we had a great turnout across the all age groups, with lots of new faces and sold returnees," said Director Courtney Biassati whose organization is preparing for its fifth season.
The two-day try-out format was new, but you can count on it being the norm from now on according to Biasatti.
"I liked the two-day format, especially after seeing who showed on day two after they got wind of who attended day one," Biasatti pointed out.
"It also allowed the ACADEMY coaching staff to breath and really think about the team and players they had to choose from."
Both the fact that so many girls are retaining their club status with ACADEMY, as well as the influx of newcomers shows the positive reputation that the club has earned in its first half-decade of operation.
"I think this speaks volumes for our five-year club to have both solid additions and a strong returning cast," added Biasatti.
The ultimate goal of club teams is compete at the Nationals, which this year will be staged in Atlanta. Biasatti feels her 15's squad, which will be coached by Texas State Assistant Sean Huiet and her 17's under the direction of ACADEMY newcomer Raul Bernal have the best chance to reach that ultimate goal.
